Devlog 11: Dinner served
Art
The final rundown for the ART section… it’s kind of unbelievable that we’re here at the end and done with our game. There are of course a lot of things that could’ve been done differently or could be improved, but you live and learn and there are always things to improve. But honestly, we’re very happy with how it has turned out, the game definitely has its charm, both visually and gameplay-wise.
So what did we do this last week?
First of all, helping buttons were added to help to guide the players more in parts of the UI that weren’t that clear.
And in general, there were a lot of polishing already made assets.
Particles
We also made multiple particles to indicate the burned and cooked to perfection states so the player has feedback on how well is the dish cooked, instead of just with the colours changing.
Cooked to perfection:
Burned:
And also a perticle for when the dish cant be made( wrong or missing ingredients):
Animations
The angry animation got polished, as well as the one for the annoyed state
Furthermore, a few hand poses got added that are overlayed on the current idle animations with bone blending
Programming
Hi there! The devs here, back for a final rundown. With the final week behind us, we are happy to announce that we reached our goals and are happy with the final state of Sticky Situation.
This week we tackled all the minor disturbances that hindered the overall gameplay. Small bug fixes, detail tweaks, excitement outbursts, and here we are, with what we imagined 5 months ago.
Final changes
The camera movement felt a bit dull and needed some changes to make it into the final game. We played around with it and got the final result, just as we imagined it:
One of the features that didn't make it into the game was the customer slamming the table. Whenever he got angry, he would smash on the table, and food would jump up as a reaction. The team was very enthusiastic about this since the beginning, so we had to integrate this into the final version of Sticky Situation.
A lot of smaller change were made that felt off to the players who have tested our game.
This includes things such as the offset between each number of the score that flies up, the button being pressed a bit too harshly and a better indication of the dish being unable to be made.
These were all changed respectively as followed:
- Changed the offset between the numbers to be smaller so they are closer together.
- Made sure that the button didn't get pushed down as hard as it did before so it would not break the connection to the grill!
- A particle playing displaying an 'X' to give extra player feedback to let them know the dish had not been found.
In addition, to make the cooking recipes easier, the collision box has been extended so now ingredients can also be stack on each other and it will still work and find the dish you're trying to make!
We hope these changes will make the experience while playing the game will make it feel more smooth and fun to replay with people that you know! Friends, family, colleagues, anyone and everyone can enjoy the game 'Sticky Situation'!
